CALL FOR ARTISTS - What We Knew When We Were Small

Announcing a Call for Artists!

What We Knew When We Were Small is the first group art show curated by and including the work of the founding members of Poppy & Prime, a California-based artist collective founded right here in Los Angeles. The art show will take place on Thursday, September 20th, at a venue in Downtown Los Angeles. Some proceeds from the show will be donated to charity.

What about your childhood do you remember?
Are your earliest and fondest memories of childhood vivid or vague?
How did you perceive the world when you were a kid?
What things do you miss the most? Want to convey to others?
What or who shaped you the most when growing up?

We are looking for artists that are willing to show works that reflect or represent the above themes, in any format. To apply to be an artist in the show, reply in the Comments section below and include a link to your work (website, portfolio, tumblr, Facebook, blog, etc.). You can also email cheryl@cherylpanlilio.com with your info. Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply. Entries are due by August 24th.

We will contact artists directly, so don't forget to include a way we can reach you. For those accepted and who choose to exhibit, a $25 fee is required to be a part of the show, to cover venue costs. All artwork for the show must be completed prior to Tuesday, September 18th (so we can prep the space and provide previews of your work), and no single piece can measure larger than 20 square feet total. We'll post a follow-up about the call after the 24th.

Thanks, and share the call on your Facebook page, Twitter feed, or any other social media you use. Just telling your friends about it in-person works, too!

  2. Hello there!

i'm an LA artist and i would love an opportunity to show a couple of my sculpture pieces.
2 sculptures in particular speak to the theme of "what we knew when we were small"
they are of my grandma and grandpa, who were both involved in my childhood and shaped who i am today. My grandma has alzheimer's and my grandpa is 101 years old. i created the pieces as tribute to them and their contribution to the lives of their children and many grandchildren.

you can see both pieces here:

they are the latest posts. I put together a video of my grandpa sculpture - it's a timelapse.
there is also a photo of my Grandma sculpture.

neither is casted yet. i wouldn't mind showing the originals at the show - they're holding up pretty well. (unless i get to cast the molds by then)

I'm excited to hear from you!
